Bella: It is a masterclass in engineering. The myocardium, the muscular tissue itself, requires its own constant supply of oxygenated blood via the coronary arteries. When those vessels are compromised, the heart literally starves, which is the mechanism behind a myocardial infarction.
Aya: It is a delicate balance of pressure and flow. The left ventricle, in particular, has to be incredibly robust because it pumps oxygenated blood against the high resistance of the systemic circulation to reach our extremities.
Bella: True. And modern medicine has made leaps in understanding this, from pacemakers regulating rhythm to advanced imaging like echocardiograms that allow us to visualize these chambers in real-time. It is truly a marvel of biological evolution.
