Australian Curriculum v9
4 topics
3 learning areas

Foundation is the first year of school, and almost all of it is spoken and hands-on rather than written. Children learn to count and compare small groups, name the shapes around them, hear the sounds inside words, and tell someone about something that happened. Nothing is assessed in the way later years are: the aim is that school makes sense and that a child is willing to try.
