Grade 3
Grade 3 brings the first real abstraction. Multiplication and division arrive as concepts rather than repeated counting, fractions appear as parts of a whole, and students must explain how they reached an answer. In English Language Arts the emphasis moves from reading accurately to reading for meaning and perspective.
