Grade 4 consolidates. Multiplication facts are expected to be known rather than derived, fractions and decimals meet, and measurement becomes something to calculate. Writing is where the year shows most: paragraphs, planning, and drafts that get revised rather than recopied.

Mathematics

Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division

Multiply up to four digits by one digit, divide with remainders, and use place value to explain why it works.

Decimal Notation for Fractions

Write fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 as decimals, and compare decimals to hundredths.

Science

Energy and Energy Transfer

Link how fast something moves to how much energy it carries, and trace energy on the move through collisions, light, sound, heat and electric currents.

English Language Arts

Opinion Writing

Write an opinion piece that states a point of view, groups reasons logically and links them with transitional words.

Social Studies

Geography, Maps and Regions

Geography, grades 3-5 band: read maps and globes, and explain how physical geography shapes where and how people live.

Technology and Computer Science

Algorithms and Programming

Level 1B (grades 3-5): write and test programs with sequences, loops and conditionals, and debug them step by step.
