Grade 7 is where proportional reasoning becomes the organising idea across mathematics and science alike. Probability appears formally, geometry becomes computational, and writing is expected to sustain an argument across several paragraphs with cited support.

Mathematics

Proportional Relationships

Decide whether two quantities vary in proportion, read the constant of proportionality off a table, graph or equation, and work through multi-stage percent problems.

Operations with Rational Numbers

Add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative rational numbers, and apply the properties of operations.

Science

Chemical Reactions

Middle school band (grades 6-8): analyze evidence that a chemical reaction has occurred, and show that atoms are conserved when substances change.

English Language Arts

Argument Writing with Evidence

Write arguments that support a claim with logical reasoning and relevant evidence, and acknowledge opposing claims.

Social Studies

World Civilizations

History, grades 6-8 band: examine ancient and classical civilizations, their institutions and beliefs, and the evidence historians use.

Technology and Computer Science

Data, Representation and Analysis

Level 2 (grades 6-8): represent data in binary, organize and clean a data set, and use models and visualizations to answer a question.
